AI Thread Summary
Copper tubes in air conditioners serve as essential components in the refrigerant system, facilitating the transfer of heat and enabling the cooling process. The primary reason manufacturers select copper for these tubes is its excellent thermal conductivity, which allows for efficient heat exchange. Additionally, copper's resistance to corrosion and durability under various conditions make it an ideal choice for HVAC applications. The addition of phosphorus or silver to copper enhances its properties; phosphorus improves the alloy's strength and corrosion resistance, while silver can enhance thermal conductivity and overall performance. The discussion also touches on the use of brass in air conditioning systems, indicating that while brass fittings may be employed, copper tubes remain critical for their specific functions. Lastly, there is interest in testing methods for assessing the corrosive properties of alloys, highlighting the importance of material durability in HVAC systems.

Copper tubes in air conditioners...quick questions..need ur help urgently..

hey there..
I have an assignment where I have to choose a material and research about..
anyway, I chose to talk about copper tubes in air conditioners..My question is..
what is the function of this tube?
What is the most distinctive characteristic/property that makes manufacturers choose copper to be used in the manufacturing of these tubes?
Finally, I read that an amount of phosphorus(P) or silver(Ag) is added to the copper.. Why is phosphorus/silver added to the copper?
I appreciate ur help coz by answering these questions I'll understand so many things, and ill be able to finish my assignment..
Need ur help! please..!
Thanks in advance..
