AI Thread Summary
An international team of researchers has successfully utilized a quantum computer to simulate artificial life, allowing for the exploration of evolutionary processes at both population and cellular levels. The simulation involves individual organisms represented by superconducting qubits, which can "mate," interact with their environment, and "die," thereby modeling key evolutionary factors. Despite the groundbreaking nature of this achievement, some skepticism exists regarding its novelty, with comparisons drawn to existing concepts like The Game of Life and concerns about the overhyping of quantum computing capabilities. Additionally, the discussion references Core Wars, a game that embodies the competitive aspects of life forms.

For the first time, an international team of researchers has used a quantum computer to create artificial life—a simulation of living organisms that scientists can use to understand life at the level of whole populations all the way down to cellular interactions.

With the quantum computer, individual living organisms represented at a microscopic level with superconducting qubits were made to “mate,” interact with their environment, and “die” to model some of the major factors that influence evolution.

I read the article, but I'm not impressed. The verbiage sounds very reminiscent of The Game of Life plus added hyperbole.

Yeah, we keep hearing about Quantum Computers will be able to do and then we hear these things. By the time, the Quantum Computer is here, it will be so ubiquitous that no one will bother to mention it.

There's a related game called core wars that fits the battle for life where one form seeks to end another form.

Dear Peeps I have posted a few questions about programing on this sectio of the PF forum. I want to ask you veterans how you folks learn program in assembly and about computer architecture for the x86 family. In addition to finish learning C, I am also reading the book From bits to Gates to C and Beyond. In the book, it uses the mini LC3 assembly language. I also have books on assembly programming and computer architecture. The few famous ones i have are Computer Organization and...
I have a quick questions. I am going through a book on C programming on my own. Afterwards, I plan to go through something call data structures and algorithms on my own also in C. I also need to learn C++, Matlab and for personal interest Haskell. For the two topic of data structures and algorithms, I understand there are standard ones across all programming languages. After learning it through C, what would be the biggest issue when trying to implement the same data...
