AI Thread Summary
The LAX shooting raised concerns about security at airports, particularly regarding the presence of firearms among civilians. The gunman, who expressed anti-government sentiments, killed a TSA officer and injured several others, prompting discussions about gun control and the NRA's potential response. The frequency of mass shootings in America has led to a need for dedicated discussion threads, highlighting a troubling trend in society. While some argue that such incidents are rare in secure locations like airports, others point out that violence is a common occurrence in urban areas. The overall sentiment reflects a growing unease about safety and the normalization of mass shootings in public discourse.

I'm confident that the NRA will say that the reason so many people were injured (shot) was not that the gunman had an assault rifle but that they should have ALL had guns and it is that lack that allowed the gunman to go so far before being brought down.

The location isn't the scariest thing. The fact that every American forum now needs a thread dedicated to mass shootings is scarier.

I meant it in the sense that they're so common, it's easier to just have a single thread for them instead of individual ones, and that's unbelievably depressing.

It's not common (at a well guarded airport or anywhere for that matter), that's why it's news. What's common is thugs in the inner city being killed by other thugs everyday but that's not news unless innocents are also killed or injured.

Another recent airport shooting.
