AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on designing a 1-meter belt conveyor for transporting soaps weighing 85 grams each, with a total of 10 soaps on the conveyor at once. The soaps drop from a height of 300mm and need to travel at a speed of 0.5 m/s. Participants suggest using a small motor and two pulleys, with a roller axle size of 25mm and ball bearings for durability. There is a request for guidance on the theoretical aspects of motor selection rather than specific calculations. The conversation emphasizes the need for the original poster to do preliminary work before seeking detailed assistance.

Dear friends,
I have a problem to design a belt conveyor. Details are as follows.
total Length 1m
loads: This conveyor to be carry soaps weight of 85grams each.
There are 10 soaps on the conveyor at any given time.
Soaps are fallen on to the moving conveyor belt from a height of 300mm 7 then it should be traveled along the whole length of the conveyor.
Speed at which soaps are to be traveled = 0.5 m/s

please kindly propose the size of the suitable roller size and the Motor Specification with calculations.
Because i have to submit design calculations to go ahead with the job.

thanks in advance.

i guess you should be worried about your belt tension value as u said soap weight is 85 g so its very small value you will need a small motor with 2 pullies one is driver and the other on the first roller
and two rollers 1 is driver and other is driven
the size of roller axe could be 25 mm it will be very durable and use simple ball bearing as 6205 that's all i think u can assume and dun be afraid this is not such a heavy duety application

Thanks Friend..
But have to worry much about the calculation..
If you have the theory behind this pls send to me..
Thanks

Hi Asela,

I think you've misunderstood the purpose of these sub-forums. The volunteers here "help" with problems, they don't do your work for you. It's quite a bit of work to come up with a design for any system so you'll need to do the bulk of the work first, then present your calculations, and then ask for specific help.

Thank you very much for your comment.. But what i wanted was not the thing you have mentioned.
I need to know the theories behind the determining the most suitable motor for the conveyor. Not the calculation.
If somebody can just guide me to a starting point, I am very grateful to him. (Ex. You first consider the motion of the belt and apply this equation... )

Thanks..

Scenario 1 (figure 1) A continuous loop of elastic material is stretched around two metal bars. The top bar is attached to a load cell that reads force. The lower bar can be moved downwards to stretch the elastic material. The lower bar is moved downwards until the two bars are 1190mm apart, stretching the elastic material. The bars are 5mm thick, so the total internal loop length is 1200mm (1190mm + 5mm + 5mm). At this level of stretch, the load cell reads 45N tensile force. Key numbers...
I'm trying to decide what size and type of galvanized steel I need for 2 cantilever extensions. The cantilever is 5 ft. The space between the two cantilever arms is a 17 ft Gap the center 7 ft of the 17 ft Gap we'll need to Bear approximately 17,000 lb spread evenly from the front of the cantilever to the back of the cantilever over 5 ft. I will put support beams across these cantilever arms to support the load evenly
