AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the anticipation of the Inspector General's report regarding the activities of Tomlinson, who resigned before its release. The report investigates his decision to hire outside researchers to assess public programming for liberal bias. There is a consensus that while PBS is perceived as a neutral media outlet, it still exhibits an inherent liberal bias, which is a point of contention. Participants acknowledge that PBS is generally better than average but maintain that it cannot be assumed to be free of liberal influence simply due to its public and non-profit status. The conversation also touches on the perception of PBS and NPR, suggesting that their content appears more liberal primarily because the mainstream media landscape has shifted significantly to the right.

I wonder what the Inspector Generals report says?

Tomlinson, a Republican, quit shortly before CPB Inspector General Kenneth Konz was to publish a report after investigating his activities, including paying outside researchers to check public programing for liberal bias.

I'll be interested in seeing the report when it comes out. PBS carries an assumption of neutrality, but it is still a media outlet. You can't just assume a media outlet isn't liberal because it is public and non-profit - it's still a media outlet. There is an inherrent liberal bend to its existence.

PBS is better than average - that's for sure. But it's still a media outlet and it is still liberal.

An opinion is a matter of perspective.

PBS and NPR haven't changed. It just seems that way because the mainstream has become so much more conservative.
