Editing Post Issues: Text Running Off-Screen

AI Thread Summary
Editing posts can lead to issues where text runs off-screen, particularly when long links or LaTex code are involved. The text box may not wrap properly, causing visibility problems in the editing interface. This issue seems to be less common for users who do not frequently edit posts with extensive LaTex content. It is suggested that line breaks might be preserved in the edit window, contributing to the problem. Overall, the discussion highlights the need for better handling of long content in post editing.

Occasionally, when I try to edit a post, the text box decides that it doesn't want to wrap to fit in the post -- so I wind up with text running past the edge of the screen, well off to the side of my browser where I can't see it anymore. (Things are fine when I click on 'go advanced')

I haven't run into that problem. Are the posts you're editing ones that have long links or LaTex code in them? Maybe the line breaks are being preserved in the edit window, even though the actual code is too long for a line? You'd be more likely than me to be editing posts with lots of LaTex in them, so that could be why I haven't encountered such a problem.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
