SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on innovative project ideas for final year electrical engineering students, specifically in the realm of solar energy and renewable sources. Key suggestions include improving solar panel efficiency by utilizing a larger Fresnel lens to enhance light capture, though this method requires careful consideration of cooling solutions and sun-tracking mechanisms. Additionally, constructing a microinverter paired with a photovoltaic (PV) panel is highlighted as a challenging yet practical project. These ideas aim to push the boundaries of current renewable energy technologies.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of solar energy principles
  • Familiarity with Fresnel lens optics
  • Knowledge of microinverter technology
  • Experience with photovoltaic (PV) systems
NEXT STEPS
  • Research methods to enhance solar panel efficiency
  • Explore the design and implementation of microinverters
  • Investigate sun-tracking systems for solar panels
  • Study cooling techniques for solar energy systems

Hello everyone, i need some ideas for my final year electrical engineering project. Any new ideas related to solar energy or other renewable sources? Thank you for your time.

How about ways to improve the efficiency of solar panels. One way might be to place a larger fresnel lens over the the solar panel, not focused to a point but to the size of the panel. A couple of disadvantages, the panel may have to be submerged in a non-conductive liquid to keep it cool and the whole arrangement would have to track the sun. Can you think of other solutions?

Building a real microinverter + PV panel is pretty challenging, and a very real-world project.

Here's an Idea.
