AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of formulating a hypothesis for research in electronic masking. Key points include the need for specificity regarding the type of electronic masking being studied, such as RF (radio frequency) or carrier current. Participants express concern over the lack of a clear motivation or rationale for pursuing research in this area without a defined focus. The conversation emphasizes the importance of narrowing down the topic to develop a viable thesis.

so I am starting to work on research in electronic masking... What applications of this topic could I draw a hypothesis from? I'm having trouble finding a potential hypothesis/thesis topic. Thanks!

Electronic masking of what? RF? Carrier current? You need to be more specific. I also am wondering why/how you are starting research on a topic when you don't have any apparent reason to do so.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
