What's the theme called that describes the following situation:

That's a good word for it. How about misogyny? Gogol kind of insults women in the story (e.g. he is offended at even the idea of a "donna" being the leader of Spain)
 
I haven't read the story (only your words on it) , so I can't say whether misogyny is a prominent part in it.
