AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the flame color of magnesium chloride, particularly in the context of a test question. It is clarified that magnesium chloride does not impart any color to the flame, indicating that neither magnesium nor chlorine has a characteristic flame color. The conversation also references atomic emission spectroscopy, noting that the relevant line for magnesium analysis is at approximately 285 nm, which is invisible. A suggestion is made to conduct a flame test using solid magnesium chloride in a blue flame for practical demonstration, but the consensus is that no distinct color will be observed.

Not to sure if this is the answer your looking for, but in atomic emission spectroscopy the line used for Mg analysis is at ~285 nm aka invisible.

when we carry out the flame test to test metal ions, what is the flame color of magnesium ions?

Why don't go into the lag and take solid MgCl_{2} and put in a flame (blue,preferably)...?It's the most convincing answer u could possibly get.

I want to test a humidity sensor with one or more saturated salt solutions. The table salt that I have on hand contains one of two anticaking agents, calcium silicate or sodium aluminosilicate. Will the presence of either of these additives (or iodine for that matter) significantly affect the equilibrium humidity? I searched and all the how-to-do-it guides did not address this question. One research paper I found reported that at 1.5% w/w calcium silicate increased the deliquescent point by...
