AI Thread Summary
Freddie Gray's death has been ruled a homicide, leading to charges against six Baltimore police officers, including one for second-degree murder. State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced the charges, which also encompass manslaughter, misconduct in office, and false imprisonment. The most serious charge is against Officer Ceasar Goodson, the van driver, for "depraved heart" murder, which requires proving a high level of reckless indifference. Legal experts express concern about the challenges in securing convictions on these serious charges, emphasizing the need for a strong case from the prosecution as the legal process unfolds.

Police unions makes a statement that the officers are not responsible. How can they make such an irresponsible statement when the process has not been hardly started?

The most serious charge, against the driver of the van, Officer Ceasar Goodson, is second-degree “depraved heart’’ murder, which involves a special degree of reckless indifference. But proving that charge beyond a reasonable doubt is a significant challenge, according to defense lawyers and former prosecutors.

They said it will also be difficult to persuade jurors to vote guilty on other serious charges against the officers, including manslaughter and assault.
The prosecutor needs to have all her ducks in a row on this one.

Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
