Does anyone know how you can describe the frequency/waveform of this repeated batch of impulses in terms of a and b ? Is there a suitable equation, thanks.

"A" looks to be about .8 divisions, while "B" looks to be about 5.5 divisions. However, that should be obvious to you, so beyond that I have no idea what you're looking for. If you want to know the frequency in Hz, you need to know the timebase. If, for example, the scope was set to 1 ms/div, then the frequency of "B" would be 1/ (5.5 * 1e-3 s) = 181.8 Hz.
