Fringe pattern of a vapour lamp

AI Thread Summary
A sodium vapor lamp produces a dominant yellow color due to its monochromatic light emission at a specific wavelength. To observe a fringe pattern, additional optical elements, such as slits or diffraction gratings, are required, as a lamp alone does not generate fringes. The setup typically involves using the lamp in conjunction with a double-slit or interference apparatus. The resulting fringe pattern would display alternating light and dark bands, characteristic of wave interference. Understanding the setup is crucial for accurately sketching the expected fringe pattern.

Homework Statement

Hi
Please, what fringe pattern would be obtained with a sodium vapour lamp?

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

I am guessing that a dominant yellow colour would be obtained. The sodium is almost acting like a monochromatic light and therefore has a particular wavelength. But I am not sure how correct my answer is. Also, what will the sketch look like? Please comment

What is the setup?
You don't have fringes from just a lamp on it's own

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
