AI Thread Summary
A humorous commercial features a student who, while dozing off in physics class, is called on by the professor to answer a theoretical problem. Confused, the student sees the number 7 on a classmate's back and confidently responds with that answer. To everyone's surprise, the professor is thrilled, believing the student has made a significant discovery, leading to international recognition and a technological breakthrough. The original poster is searching for this commercial on YouTube but is unable to find it, unsure if it is a Snickers or Geico ad. Others in the discussion note that it may not have aired in their region, suggesting that regional differences in commercial broadcasts could be a factor in its unavailability. Some participants have attempted to locate the ad but have had no success.

There is this commercial where a guy was falling asleep in physics class, the professor calls his name and asks him what's the answer to a theoretical problem the professor has on the board. The guy looks around confused, sees someone in front of him with the number 7 on his back, so he says the answer is 7. The professor thinks for a moment and he can't believe it, the guy found the answer the professor is so happy and excited. The guy gets international recognition and there's a technological breakthrough because of his "discovery."

I thought it was a pretty funny commercial, I've been looking for it on youtube typing keywords but I can't find it. Anyone has a link to it if you know which commercial I'm talking about? Also, I don't remember if it was a snicker's or a geico commercial, if someone remembers please tell me.

Maybe it's a regional thing. It has never been aired by my service provider.

There's an outside possibility that it slipped past because I record all of my shows except the news and then zip the commercials when I watch them. I've seen enough pieces of them, though, to be relatively certain that the one in question has never been shown in my market.

I think that I've seen the commercial that owtu was asking about. I just spent the last half hour searching funny commercials trying to find it. No luck but it was pretty amusing.

But you're a Yank. That's what I meant when I first said that it might be regional. A lot of Yank shows have their commercials replaced with Canadian ones when they cross the border.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
