Gold's index of refraction in micro-onde

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the index of refraction of gold at microwave frequencies, specifically around 10 GHz. Participants inquire about resources or literature that provide this specific value, with suggestions to contact NIST and check various online databases. While some resources were shared, they primarily focus on optical wavelengths rather than the desired microwave range. The conversation highlights the challenge of finding accurate data for gold's refractive index at millimeter wavelengths. Overall, there is a need for more specific information on this topic.

Are there someones know about gold's index of refraction in micro-onde, for exemple in frequency 10GHz? Or a book in which I may find the value. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Andy, I've got contact with a guy at NIST who works at GHz.
Still, I don't have that value...

I have also the paper in your third link, but obviousely all the values are given in optical field, knowing that the wavelength of GHz is in mm.

Hi zoe101,

Have you checked out http://refractiveindex.info/?

Claude.

Thank you Claude. It's a very good link. However, the wavelength is limited in µm.

Thread 'A quartet of epi-illumination methods'
Well, it took almost 20 years (!!!), but I finally obtained a set of epi-phase microscope objectives (Zeiss). The principles of epi-phase contrast is nearly identical to transillumination phase contrast, but the phase ring is a 1/8 wave retarder rather than a 1/4 wave retarder (because with epi-illumination, the light passes through the ring twice). This method was popular only for a very short period of time before epi-DIC (differential interference contrast) became widely available. So...
I am currently undertaking a research internship where I am modelling the heating of silicon wafers with a 515 nm femtosecond laser. In order to increase the absorption of the laser into the oxide layer on top of the wafer it was suggested we use gold nanoparticles. I was tasked with modelling the optical properties of a 5nm gold nanoparticle, in particular the absorption cross section, using COMSOL Multiphysics. My model seems to be getting correct values for the absorption coefficient and...
