Is There a Linux Version of Photoshop?

AI Thread Summary
Linux Red Hat users seeking alternatives to Photoshop can utilize GIMP, a powerful image editing software that supports various file formats, including .psd. GIMP is free and runs natively on Linux, avoiding the complications of using Wine to run Photoshop, which may perform poorly. Additionally, GIMP can be enhanced with plugins for extended functionality. For more options, users can explore resources like linuxartist.org, which lists various graphics software compatible with Linux. New users may also consider switching to Ubuntu for a more user-friendly experience compared to Red Hat.

I just got Linux Red hat, still trying to get use to it...

I am having trouble editing pictures and drawing diagrams using Open Office software. Is there an equivalent "Photoshop" for Linux platforms?

The GIMP can do almost anything photoshop can (including edit .psd format images).
It also has the advantages of
1: You don't have to pay a lot of money for it.
2: You don't have to spend hours trying to get wine to work good enough to run photoshop. (The most complicated program I've been able to run via wine is starcraft).
3: It runs natively in Linux, whereas photoshop will run slowly (if at all) in wine.

The GIMP's functionality can be extended via plugins: http://registry.gimp.org/

There are lots of other options as well: try http://linuxartist.org/ for more info. A lot of the packages listed there probably have binaries available for RedHat as well.

btw, if your new to linux I suggest that you switch to ubuntu, a lot more user friendly than redhat.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
