The discussion centers on a second-year computer engineering student seeking resources to learn about the electrooptic effect and electrooptic modulation. They express difficulty with Amnon Yariv's "Introduction to Optical Electronics" and specifically mention challenges with the ellipsoid material. A suggestion is made to consider "Lasers and Electro-optics" by Davis, which is noted as easier to understand. The student is looking for simple resources with minimal prerequisites. Overall, the conversation highlights the need for accessible learning materials in the field of electrooptics.

Hello!
I am a second year computer engineer.
I would like to learn about the electrooptic effect and electrooptic modulation.
Anyone have any GOOD links(prefferd) or names of books to learn the subject.
I really need some guidence for "simple" resources which i can learn from, without too many "pre-requests"...
I have the book of the "master" (Amnon Yariv) - "introduction to optical electronics", but its pretty difficult for me.
Mostly, i don't understand for now all the "ellipsoid" material...
Thanks a lot.

Try "Lasers and Electro-optics" by Davis. I found it pretty easy to follow in my second year at University.

comparing a flat solar panel of area 2π r² and a hemisphere of the same area, the hemispherical solar panel would only occupy the area π r² of while the flat panel would occupy an entire 2π r² of land. wouldn't the hemispherical version have the same area of panel exposed to the sun, occupy less land space and can therefore increase the number of panels one land can have fitted? this would increase the power output proportionally as well. when I searched it up I wasn't satisfied with...
