SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating angular acceleration for a fan given its moment of inertia, a time of 3.6 seconds, and a total of 12 revolutions to reach full speed. The user converted revolutions per second to radians per second, resulting in a final angular velocity of 20.94 rad/s. They attempted to use the equation θ = θ₀ + ω₀t + ½αt² to find angular acceleration but encountered difficulties in obtaining the correct answer.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of angular motion concepts
  • Familiarity with moment of inertia
  • Knowledge of kinematic equations for rotational motion
  • Ability to convert between revolutions and radians
NEXT STEPS
  • Review the kinematic equations for rotational motion
  • Learn about calculating angular acceleration using the formula α = (ω - ω₀) / t
  • Study the relationship between linear and angular displacement
  • Explore the concept of moment of inertia in different geometries
USEFUL FOR

Students studying physics, particularly those focusing on rotational dynamics, as well as educators seeking to clarify concepts related to angular motion and acceleration calculations.

I am given the moment of inertia of the system ( a fan) and the question asks for me to find the angular acceleration "after the fan is turned on, it takes t = 3.6 s and a total of 12 revolutions to accelerate up to its full speed" ? How I went about solving is that.. I simply converted the rev / sec into rad/ sec (20.94rads/sec). And used this as a final angular velocity, 0 as the initial velocity and the time (3.6) to calculate the acceleration, but I don't get the right answer and I don't know why ?

thanks

I would apply the following:

θ = θ_{o} + \omega_{o}t + \frac{1}{2}\alphat^{2}

Your physics book should discuss this.

Let me know it it works!
