How can I collect power from a magnetic field?

AI Thread Summary
To harness power from a magnetic field, it's essential to understand that static magnetic fields do not produce energy. An electric generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy using magnetic fields, but this process requires an external energy source. The discussion emphasizes that while one can move magnetic materials to generate power, this is not a sustainable method as it depletes the available resources. Additionally, drawing parallels to gravitational fields illustrates that energy extraction typically relies on an external source, such as solar or wind energy, rather than the field itself. Effective energy generation requires a clear understanding of physics and the mechanisms involved.

Im think of making a device that could harness power from a magnetic field, I hardly know any physics. Now my problem is how or what can I use or make to collect the energy from the magnetic field and turn it into power? and so it can run from a solar panel or wind energy?

please help looking for ideas if possible to make ty.

Welcome to PF.

Your questions do not make much sense. What magnetic field? For example, an electric generator converts mechanical energy to electrical energy using a magnetic field: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_generator

And what does this have to do with solar and wind energy?

Perhaps you could rephrase your questions?

A static magnetic field doesn't have any power. You can of course take magnetic stuff which is a long way from a magnet, move it closer and extract the power, but once that's used up you have to find more stuff, and you can't put the original stuff back without supplying the energy again, regardless of the level of ingenuity involved in the mechanism.

For an analogy, consider the gravitational field of the Earth. You can't extract power from that either. You can of course let the sun move water to a high reservoir then let it fall under gravity through a hydroelectric plant, but then you are not extracting energy from the gravitational field but rather from the sun.

Thread 'Inducing EMF Through a Coil: Understanding Flux'
Thank you for reading my post. I can understand why a change in magnetic flux through a conducting surface would induce an emf, but how does this work when inducing an emf through a coil? How does the flux through the empty space between the wires have an effect on the electrons in the wire itself? In the image below is a coil with a magnetic field going through the space between the wires but not necessarily through the wires themselves. Thank you.
Thread 'Griffith, Electrodynamics, 4th Edition, Example 4.8. (Second part)'
I am reading the Griffith, Electrodynamics book, 4th edition, Example 4.8. I want to understand some issues more correctly. It's a little bit difficult to understand now. > Example 4.8. Suppose the entire region below the plane ##z=0## in Fig. 4.28 is filled with uniform linear dielectric material of susceptibility ##\chi_e##. Calculate the force on a point charge ##q## situated a distance ##d## above the origin. In the page 196, in the first paragraph, the author argues as follows ...
