How Do Digital Watches Utilize Physics and Electronics for Accurate Timekeeping?

AI Thread Summary
Digital watches rely on the piezoelectric effect of quartz crystals for accurate timekeeping, which oscillate at a precise frequency. The electronics involved include a quartz crystal oscillator that generates a stable frequency, a divide-by counter that converts this frequency into seconds, and a display that shows the time. Understanding these components requires knowledge of both physics and electronics, particularly in how they interact to maintain accuracy. Further exploration of these topics can provide deeper insights into the technology behind digital watches. Comprehensive resources and calculations on this subject are beneficial for those seeking to understand the underlying principles.

Is there any serious work with calculations and explanations about this topic? Any references?

I know that that digital watch is a combination of physics(piezoelectric effect) and logic, but i need to know much more.

Mainly electronics. A quartz crystal oscillator, a divide-by counter, and of course the display.
