How do I graphically add vectors with assigned values and angles?

AI Thread Summary
To graphically add vectors A, B, and E, place them tip-to-tail, ensuring their angles are considered. Vector A has a magnitude of 3.0, vector B also has a magnitude of 3.0 at a 90-degree angle, and vector E has a magnitude of 5.0 at a 45-degree angle. The angles significantly affect the resultant vector's direction and magnitude, which cannot simply be summed as 11. After arranging the vectors, draw a line from the tail of the first vector to the head of the last vector to find the resultant vector. The task requires both the magnitude and direction of the resultant vector.

Homework Statement

Graphically add the following sets of vectors. (There is a group of 6 vectors labeled A-F. They have an assigned value and are at different angles, but the angle is not given)

Homework Equations

None?

The Attempt at a Solution

So my problem here is this. The problem I need help with is adding 3 vectors. The first is A, which has a value of 3.0. Then B, which is also 3.0 but at a 90 degree angle. And the third is E, which is 5.0 and at a 45 degree angle.

I understand that you place them tip-to-tail and then add, but I'm not sure how to do it graphically? Do the angles play a role, or is my answer just 11? PLEASE HELP!

Is it wanting the magnitude and direction of the resultant vector of A + B + E?

It just says "Graphically add the following sets of vectors." I would think it would want the direction but I could be wrong... But it doesn't give the angles (I had to use a protractor) and usually my book does if it wants direction.

Well, if it wants you to graphically add them you can simply put the tail of one vector on the head of another vector and repeat for the third vector. Then, draw a line from the tail of the first vector to the head of the last vector. Since it only asks for the graphical addition I have to assume that's all it wants.

Your answer is definitely not 11.

A vector pointing North? A vector pointing East? And 1 pointing North East?

I multiplied the values first without the error limit. Got 19.38. rounded it off to 2 significant figures since the given data has 2 significant figures. So = 19. For error I used the above formula. It comes out about 1.48. Now my question is. Should I write the answer as 19±1.5 (rounding 1.48 to 2 significant figures) OR should I write it as 19±1. So in short, should the error have same number of significant figures as the mean value or should it have the same number of decimal places as...
Thread 'A cylinder connected to a hanging mass'
Let's declare that for the cylinder, mass = M = 10 kg Radius = R = 4 m For the wall and the floor, Friction coeff = ##\mu## = 0.5 For the hanging mass, mass = m = 11 kg First, we divide the force according to their respective plane (x and y thing, correct me if I'm wrong) and according to which, cylinder or the hanging mass, they're working on. Force on the hanging mass $$mg - T = ma$$ Force(Cylinder) on y $$N_f + f_w - Mg = 0$$ Force(Cylinder) on x $$T + f_f - N_w = Ma$$ There's also...
