How employable is a Statistics major, and what kind of jobs are availa

AI Thread Summary
Attending San Francisco State University to study Statistics with an emphasis on Economics is a viable option, as the employability of a Statistics major is generally strong, particularly in fields like finance and actuarial science. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects significant job openings for statisticians and actuaries, with 3,500 new statistician jobs and 5,800 for actuaries expected between 2010 and 2020. This suggests that a Statistics degree can lead to promising career opportunities, especially when combined with economic principles. While engineering is another option, concerns about technical skills may make Statistics a more suitable choice for those interested in economics and data analysis.

I'm considering attending SF state to study Statistics with emphasis in Economics. However, I worry that the major isn't employable. If that is so, i would do engineering instead. How employable is a Statistics major? Do you think I should do engineering instead, even though I'm not that good with technical stuff?

I would imagine a statistics major is pretty employable especially if your doing economics. You could become an actuary, or go into financial sector with it at least. The bureau of labor statistics says that new statistician jobs to open between 2010-2020 is 3,500; actuaries on the other hand expect 5,800. Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
