How Long Does Earth Rotate Around the Earth-Moon Barycentre?

AI Thread Summary
The Earth and Moon rotate around their common center of gravity, known as the barycentre. It takes approximately 27.3 days for the Earth to complete one full turn around this barycentre, coinciding with the Moon's sidereal period. Additionally, the Earth rotates on its own axis, completing a rotation roughly every 24 hours, which defines a day. The complexity of the Earth-Moon system's elliptical orbits around the Sun can affect the perception of these rotations. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for grasping the relationship between the Earth and Moon.

The question is about the Earth's rotation and duration.

It is my understanding that the Earth and moon rotate around the earth-moon system common center of gravity (also known as the barycentre).

Question #1. How long does it take for the Earth to complete one full turn around the earth-moon system barycentre?

Question #2. In addition to the Earth rotating around the earth-moon system barycentre, does the Earth also rotate about its own center axis?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The answer to question 2: it's called a day.

And the answer to #1 --To a first approximation-- is a lunar month...

Then you must decide what a 'full turn' represents given the Earth/Moon system orbits Sun, and the orbits are slightly elliptical etc etc...

1. From wikipedia on the moon: The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth with respect to the fixed stars about once every 27.3 days (its sidereal period). However, since the Earth is moving in its orbit about the Sun at the same time, it takes slightly longer for the Moon to show the same phase to Earth, which is about 29.5 days

So the time it takes for the Earth AND the moon to make one revolution around their barycenter is about 27.3 days.

2. Yep. It rotates around its own axis approximately once every 24 hours.

TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. Thread 'Could gamma-ray bursts have an intragalactic origin?'
This is indirectly evidenced by a map of the distribution of gamma-ray bursts in the night sky, made in the form of an elongated globe. And also the weakening of gamma radiation by the disk and the center of the Milky Way, which leads to anisotropy in the possibilities of observing gamma-ray bursts. My line of reasoning is as follows: 1. Gamma radiation should be absorbed to some extent by dust and other components of the interstellar medium. As a result, with an extragalactic origin, fewer...
