SUMMARY

The discussion centers on crafting proposals for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. Participants emphasize the importance of reviewing previous proposals to understand successful elements and structure. A key takeaway is the necessity of professional language, avoiding informal terms like "wanna." Engaging with a mentor, such as a professor, is crucial for guidance in developing observational ideas.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with proposal writing in scientific research
  • Understanding of observational astronomy concepts
  • Knowledge of NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory objectives
  • Ability to analyze previous successful proposals
NEXT STEPS
  • Research proposal writing techniques specific to astronomical observations
  • Examine successful proposals submitted to NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory
  • Learn about the scientific objectives and capabilities of the Chandra X-ray Observatory
  • Engage with mentors or professors for feedback on proposal ideas
USEFUL FOR

Students and early-career researchers in astronomy, particularly those interested in writing proposals for observational studies at NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory.

So, proposals are soon going to be accepted for the NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and the professor that I am currently working on asked us to come up with ideas for a proposal, they can be anything! However, because I am just starting research, I am not sure yet what I want to observe, but I just want the experience of wiring such proposals.

And I'm just curious, how do I even begin knowing and then writing what observations I need?

Thanks!

You should look at previous proposals. Your professor can help you with that. One thing you will notice they have in common is that none of them use the non-word "wanna".
