AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around solving two unknowns, A and B, from the equations 0.32 = A + lnB and 0.51 = lnA + B. The user initially misapplies exponential rules, leading to confusion in their calculations. Clarification is provided that the correct application of exponentials results in B * exp(A) for the first equation and A + exp(B) for the second. It's suggested that algebraic solutions may be challenging, and using a graphical calculator could help find decimal results. The user seeks guidance on resolving these equations effectively.

I just can't solve for this unknow, could anyone guild me? please

Homework Statement

It is a problem about VLE from i already found almost everything cept this 2 unknowns i can't solve I need to find A and B but it seems hard to me or i did something wrong

Homework Equations

Original)
(1)-------- 0.32=A+lnB
(2)-------- 0.51=lnA+B

The Attempt at a Solution

This is what i have so far
(1)---------- exp(.32)=exp(A)+B = 1.377
(2)---------- exp(.51)=A+exp(B) = 1.665

T_T It confused me. - -

you made a mistake when taking exponentials of both sides.
so your equations are:
0.32=A+lnB
0.51=lnA+B

when taking exponentials, this gives:
exp(0.32)=exp(A+lnB)=exp(A)*exp(lnB)=B*exp(A)

can you do the rest now?

RHS is wrong remember exp(A + B) = exp(A) * exp(B) remember the rules for exponents.

While your manipulations were incorrect even if you do them correctly you still won't be able to solve this algebraically. Seeing as you have decimal values you could try using a graphical calculator to obtain a decimal result.

I'm having trouble deciphering your post title. Did you mean you wanted someone to gild you? geld you?

Oh, now I get it. You wanted someone to guide you.:smile:

I picked up this problem from the Schaum's series book titled "College Mathematics" by Ayres/Schmidt. It is a solved problem in the book. But what surprised me was that the solution to this problem was given in one line without any explanation. I could, therefore, not understand how the given one-line solution was reached. The one-line solution in the book says: The equation is ##x \cos{\omega} +y \sin{\omega} - 5 = 0##, ##\omega## being the parameter. From my side, the only thing I could...
