AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the need for a transformative approach to education, particularly in secondary schools. The emphasis is on prioritizing students' engagement and interest over a rigid adherence to standardized policies like "No Child Left Behind." It advocates for immediate adjustments to teaching methods when students show signs of boredom or disinterest, suggesting that education should be tailored to individual needs. Participants are encouraged to provide specific examples of educational shortcomings and propose realistic solutions, while also considering the varying regulations and educational frameworks across different regions, particularly in the U.S. The call for a more focused and researched dialogue highlights the importance of addressing these issues with practical, actionable ideas.

If you could change the way we educate people, what would you do?

I leave this as a general open-ended question.

Especially in secondary school, the mantra should not be "No Child Left Behind", but "Don't waste the child's time".
Different topics and different teaching methods work differently with different people at different times in their lives. If a situation isn't working for a student, it needs to be changed immediately. If a students is experiencing tedium or disinterest, in they're in the wrong place.

You need to state what you think and give examples of what you believe are problems and what would be realistic solutions. What country are you talking about would be a good a start. If it's the US, rules change as far down as cities, within counties, within states. If you decide to return, you need to do some research and then return with a more thought out, more focused thread that can actually have some meaning.

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
