Is Infinite Energy Achievable Through Infinite Regress?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion explores the concept of infinite energy in relation to infinite regress, questioning whether true infinite energy can exist. It emphasizes that while energy remains constant, entropy increases over time, leading to a dispersal of information rather than a loss of energy. The conversation references Penrose spin networks to illustrate the idea that space may be discrete and finite, suggesting that energy and information are also limited. Theories like the "big bounce" and loop quantum gravity propose that the universe's structure is finite, challenging the notion of infinite regress. Ultimately, the consensus leans towards the finiteness of energy and space rather than the possibility of infinite energy.

It seems that our perception of time is inter-related to the loss of energy and order over time. If infinite regress were true when that means infinite energy right?

So can we have infinite energy? Is there infinite regress? Can we even have infinite energy?

You will have to define what YOU mean by "infinite". It has several different meanings in different kinds of mathematics and, as far as I know, is not used in Physics.

There is no loss of energy, only increase of entropy.

"...So can we have infinite energy? Is there infinite regress? Can we even have infinite energy?.."

Energy remains constant, entropy increases and information disperses over time in our universe.

Because space now appears discrete and finite, use Penrose spin networks as a visualization, (they looks like a geodesic dome with discrete value nodes and links) example, not infinitely continuous, best theory is that energy and information in a given space are also finite...this is strongly suggested by the finite information on the event horizon of a black hole...

There are also now theories of the big bang arising from finite conditions..."big bounce" is once such formulation, quantum approaches offer others as well...in these only a quantum fluctuation which suddenly evolves space, time, energy is possible...vacuum energy could be the source...

For those interested, the finiteness not "infinitness" of space structure is discussed via the theory of loop quantum gravity...see the abstract summary at...

for an overview without any "hipper dipper" (complex) math..

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
