AI Thread Summary
A recent bank bombing in Oregon resulted in the deaths of a police officer and a bomb expert. The explosive was discovered by a bank employee hidden in bushes and detonated after being brought inside the bank by officers, raising questions about the decision-making process that led to this action. The police chief's insights on the incident are anticipated, as there is concern about the potential for a larger campaign reminiscent of past domestic terrorism. Participants in the discussion express disbelief over the handling of the bomb and emphasize the importance of vigilance in everyday environments, suggesting a possible link between the bombing and the current financial crisis.

I hope this is not the beginning of another Unibomber-type campaign.

Hastings declined to describe the bomb in detail but indicated it was powerful.

A bank employee found the bomb in bushes outside the bank, and it exploded after officers took it inside.

Hastings said he did not know why the officers took the bomb inside.

I can't believe they took a bomb 'inside'! Unfortunately they were killed. Hopefully the police chief can shed light on the matter - unless he was part of the decision to take the bomb inside.

All I can say is be vigilant. If something looks out of place in your normal everyday environment - be careful.

I'm going to guess this has more to do with the current financial situation than anything else.

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
