error in "Byron and Fuller"

I've discovered a major logical error in Byron & Fuller's "Mathematics of Classical and Quantum Physics" (Dover edition) and it's really bugging me. It's on pg. 177, in the lead-up to Theorem 4.28. If anybody has read this book and/or knows what I'm talking about, please respond so we can discuss this...I simply can't continue reading in good conscience unless I either resolve the error or find an alternate proof of Thm 4.28

why don't you say briefly what the problem is so we do not have to go to the library and read the book?

Thank you for bringing this error to our attention. It is always important to carefully examine and critically analyze mathematical proofs, especially in a subject as complex as classical and quantum physics. I am not familiar with this specific book, but I would suggest reaching out to the authors or other experts in the field to discuss and potentially resolve this issue. It is important to ensure that mathematical proofs are accurate and logically sound in order to properly understand and apply the principles of classical and quantum physics. Best of luck in resolving this error and continuing your studies.
