AI Thread Summary
A user has developed a solution to a complex problem from Marion and Thornton's "Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems," 5th edition, but it does not align with the back of the book answers. They inquire about the availability of an errata for the textbook and mention that a solutions manual exists online. Another user confirms they have the solutions manual, which provides limited detail, allowing for independent problem-solving. The original poster realizes that their initial errors stemmed from shortcuts taken in the mathematical process, leading to a clearer understanding after fully working through the problem.

I've arrived at a solution for a problem, but it doesn't match the back of the book. It's a pretty involved problem, so I don't want to replicate it here, but I feel like my work is pretty solid. Does anyone know if there's an errata available for Marion and Thornton's "Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems", 5th ed?

I don't believe so, but there is a solutions manual available somewhere online.

Thanks Sentin3l, I've got the solutions manual. Luckily it doesn't go into too many details on the solutions leaving me to make it work. It turned out that the problem I was having was due to me cutting corners on the math; I wrote the entire monster out and discovered that some things canceled that hadn't before.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
