What have you discovered about the HDD storage device?

I would suspect the manufacturer's website would describe its capabilities and supported OS platforms that they have written device drivers for.

It seems there is filesystem support for:

• Windows: Typically NTFS, FAT32, or exFAT.
• Linux: ext4, ext3, XFS, Btrfs, etc.
• macOS: APFS, HFS+.
 
Will a ten year old drive work in a ten year old motherboard? Probably. Will someone guarantee that it will? Probably not.

To add: if your drive hasn't been in use for years, it might not work when plugged in, even if "compatible". These do not last forever.
 
The theory is 'yes'.
Now, you should start experimenting.

Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on.
