Liquid oxygen expansion in vaccum

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around calculating the amount of liquid oxygen needed in a vacuum container to ensure even distribution when it expands into gas. The scenario involves two containers: one in a vacuum with a height of 6000m and the other filled with liquid oxygen at -190 degrees Celsius. The goal is to achieve a uniform mass distribution of the liquid oxygen when it occupies the vacuum container. Participants emphasize the importance of conducting personal research and calculations, especially for a national level competition. The conversation highlights the theoretical challenges faced before practical implementation.

Homework Statement

There are 2 containers.Outside temperatue is -190 degree celcius.(boiling point of liquid oxygen is -180 degree celcius). One is filled with vacuum and can have a minimum height of 6000m and other is filled with liquid oxygen (1140 kg/m3 density) at -190 degree celcius which can have a miximum height of half the height of the other container. Both have 1m x 1m base.I want to know how much liquid oxygen should be put in the vacuum container so that when it occupies the entire vacuum container it is distributed nearly equally at both upper and lower half [and not like that it has more mass at the base and very few at the top].[Inside vacuum container it would form gas as its boiling point woul decrease].

Even for a national level competition, you must do your own work. Even if the answer won, I doubt you would share the prize with PF.

Its not that answer to this question will get me a prize but it is a difficulty i am facing theoretically. So i want to clarify it before i start working on this project practically.

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
