AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a quiz purportedly related to MENSA, where participants share their scores and experiences with the test. Many express frustration with the quiz's difficulty, with some participants achieving scores ranging from 7 to 30 out of 33 questions. According to MENSA, if you get 19 + of these, you are a "genius".
Only 2 MENSA members achieved full marks. See how well you do.
How many did you get right?
I got 7/33 so far

OMG, I looked at the answers, this is assinine. Oh right, this is Mensa. If you think like we do, you're a genius.

If you can answer the EVO quiz, you're a genius! Betcha the MENSA people will fail because they don't know what I'm thinking. OY.

scott1, I think this is great, this would stump anyone, don't get me wrong. It's just the mentality that goes behind these tests that get me.

Ok, I can post the link to the answers. I somehow doubt this is actually a MENSA test, it makes no sense and has nothing to do with intelligence.

edit:Just as I thought, this is not a MENSA test, the website belongs to some yayhoo in Bulgaria.

Here's a link to the answer (look at your own risk) http://www.chesskit.com/miscellaneous/quiz.php

There should be some sort of time limit, no? I'm at 14 and getting stumped.

I got 23 on the one The Professional linked. Those anagram problems and some of the sequence problems always get me.

Only got 13 on the first test though.

I got 15 so far on the first test. What in the hell is 13 L in a B D? I am pretty sure that B D is *highlight* Bakers Dozen, but what is the L?

20 out of 30 for the mensa workout and I was not trying to hard.

It is very heavily math related... not to hard.

Gasp! ...made it to the 19 threshold...dizzy...sweating profusely...nose bleeding...

But yeah, no time limit? This seems more like a test of creative thinking than problem solving.

There are so 8 Toes on an Owl! They have no imagnation.

Nevermind, I'm officially a genius. I can stop thinking now. And since they didn't specify, I'm counting the one that was given. Is that wrong?

Got 28. The months really stumped me. And I insist that tea-light, tea-time and tea-break are perfectly good English words (guess the hyphen is illegal)

I got 25, officially, but I'm certain it should be 27.
It won't accept my answers for 24 and 28
24: 13 loaves in a baker's dozen
28: 23 prophesies of christ in the holy bible

What's going on here?

Given time I think I could get a couple more. I can't believe only two people got them all, given no time limit.

It didn't accept a couple of my answers too. On #24, you have to misspell the B-word (omit the apostrophe to make it work).

Another one that I recall it not accepting was the 52 c in a p (w j).

  • #24
You can't test intelligence anyway, too complicated, if there's a standardised test for creativity you can be damn sure it doesn't test it. IQ tests mostly test your education level after age 12. They are and always have been redundant for testing other than for illegitamately labeling people of course.

Mensa: I would never join a club that would accept me as a member:-p

It accepts it...it's without, not with.

I got 25 on both (the one in the opening post, and the first one in The Professional's post). I'm still working on the rest of the ones in the opening post one though. Must...resist...peeking...at...answers...

28 is wrong, that's why it won't take it. I, of all people, should have gotten it, but I too got stuck thinking H B was Holy Bible (given all the other answers based on the Bible).

I finally peeked at the answers, and other than #28, that I really should have gotten, and #12 that I've at least heard of, the rest I missed I would have never in a million years figured out because I just didn't know those bits of trivia.

I did a quick google, and well, there are a heck of a lot more than 23 prophesies of Christ in the Bible. Some are counting into the hundreds, so I guess it's not that. And so, they dropped the apostrophe on the B-word? I guess it's a point of discussion whether or not it's is posessive or plural B-word (or posessive-plural).

Still haven't peeked, and I'm at 29.
"I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T!"

Edit: Ha! It's 30! Took a stab at "9 P in SA" Got it.

It won't accept "23 pints of cider in a hump back" What's wrong with this?

Pretty soon I'll be too smart to join Mensa.

(Please note that this is sarcastic bravado; this just happens to be the kind of puzzle I'm good at).

That is what I put in. I've done way too many problems in probability to not know how many cards there are in a pack - not to mention an earlier life where I played a ton of bridge !

Thanks to that clew, I now know what this is.

OK, I give up at 30.

I looked at the answers.
I never would have gotten "6 B to an O in C"

Might have gotten 32 P of C in the H B if I thought a bit longer; I'll never know.

I still feel stupid for not getting 13: ("32 is the T in D F at which W F")
No matter how well you do on these things, you end up feeling like a bonehead!

Oh...hmm...I thought that might be a likely slip-up if someone was tired. It took it when I wrote it...must be mistyped in some other way. Maybe a space is missing or extra around the parentheses?
