AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the treatment options for a rare birth defect affecting a baby's kidney. It emphasizes the importance of the baby's doctor in determining the appropriate treatment plan. Living with only one kidney is feasible, but the defect may have broader implications for the child's health. Long-term management will require avoiding risk factors for kidney disease, such as high blood pressure. Advances in treatment technology, influenced by lifestyle factors, are expected to improve outcomes for individuals with kidney issues. Consultation with a physician is essential for personalized guidance. The thread has been locked to prevent further comments.

Obviously, the baby's doctor needs to lead this determination.
(and I am not a doctor)

It is very possible to live a full healthy life with only one kidney - but the defect may have affected more than just the kidney.

That said, in the long term it will be important for this person to avoid anything that can contribute to kidney disease (high blood pressure, etc.).

In his/her favor, the western lifestyle has contributed enormously to kidney disease - and thus also kidney disease treatment. So he/she will grow up with rapidly improving treatment technology.

Later aridification turned this region into the world's largest desert. Due to the extreme aridity of the region today, DNA preservation is poor, making this pioneering ancient DNA study all the more significant. Genomic analyses reveal that the...
