Orthonormality contition for radial functions of hydrogen

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the orthonormality condition for radial functions of hydrogen, specifically addressing the inner product of two different radial functions. The user expected the inner product to yield zero but encountered a nonzero result. This discrepancy raises questions about the orthonormality of radial wave functions, prompting references to related discussions for further clarification.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of quantum mechanics principles, particularly wave functions.
  • Familiarity with the concept of inner products in functional spaces.
  • Knowledge of hydrogen atom radial functions and their mathematical representations.
  • Basic grasp of orthonormality conditions in quantum mechanics.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the mathematical properties of radial wave functions in quantum mechanics.
  • Explore the implications of inner products in Hilbert spaces.
  • Study the orthonormality conditions specific to hydrogen atom wave functions.
  • Review related discussions on physics forums regarding wave function normalization.
USEFUL FOR

Students and professionals in quantum mechanics, physicists studying atomic structures, and anyone interested in the mathematical foundations of wave functions.

Hello people ! Hope you are fine!
I tried to find the inner product that u can see below, between two different radial functions.
I was expecting to find zero but i found something nonzero.
You can see my two questions below in the photo.
