Phase Transitions

  1. Sep 4, 2009 #1
I've read a few books which talk about our universe's possible false vacuum energy state, and how our universe may, now or at some point in the future, undergo a phase transition as it moves from one vacuum state to a lower state via quantum tunneling, and how when such an event happens the phase transition will explode throughout the universe at light speed through ominous bubbles that completely transform our known spacetime and rearrange the laws of physics, unleashing unlimited devastation to all the universe's inhabitants.

Boy, wouldn't it be a letdown if the phase transition happened, and nothing changed? Just saying...
