Physics concepts of a trebuchet

AI Thread Summary
Key physics concepts related to trebuchets include the principles of energy transfer, particularly potential and kinetic energy, as well as the mechanics of levers and torque. Understanding kinematic equations is essential for calculating the acceleration and motion of the projectile based on applied forces. Researching the historical design and variations of trebuchets can provide insights into their efficiency and effectiveness. Resources such as Wikipedia and physics forums can offer valuable information and equations to support the technical paper and speech. A comprehensive grasp of these concepts will be crucial for success in the Nationals competition.

I need to be able to build a trebuchet, write a 15 page technical paper on it, and give a 5 minute speech on the different concepts of a trebuchet.

I have never taken physics being a biology kid myself. So therefore I know only very basic physics. I will of course need to do a lot of research... but if you were to list some of the more important things relating to a trebuchet to discuss, what would they be? Any help would be appreciated. This is for a Nationals competition.

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
