Pool Heater Installation and Comparison Questions

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on pool heaters, specifically their power ratings and installation details. One participant shares their experience with a 300,000 BTU natural gas heater used for an 18,000-gallon pool, noting that this capacity was excessive except during winter months in Arizona. They emphasize that various factors, including wind, surface area, and desired temperature rise, significantly influence heater requirements. A link to a pool heater size calculator is provided for further assistance in determining appropriate heater sizes based on specific conditions.

Until I switched to solar, I had a 300,000 BTU natural gas heater on an 18,000 gallon pool. 300,000 BTU was overkill except in the middle of the winter, but I live in Arizona.

But there are a lot of variables, such as wind, surface area, and temperature rise over ambient. The link below has a pool heater size calculator.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
