AI Thread Summary
Two nearby universities have differing requirements for transferring as a physics major from community college. One university provided a specific list of required courses, including four physics classes, four chemistry classes, and three math classes. In contrast, the other university does not mandate any prerequisite classes but suggests taking chemistry I and II and calculus I and II. This discrepancy highlights the importance of verifying transfer credit policies with the intended university to ensure that community college courses will be recognized for placement and credit.

I have two universities near me and I emailed them to find out what classes I need to take in my community college for a transfer as a physics major. One of them emailed me back giving me a list of classes I need to take. Four physics classes, four chemistry classes and three math classes.
Then I got an email from the other university and they said they don't require any prerequisite classes, but they merely suggested chemistry I and II and calculus I and II.

Why such a difference?

I can't really answer yourt original question. However I would make sure that the university you plan to transfer to will give you credit for your courses at CC (at least placement).

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
