AI Thread Summary
In the discussion, a participant seeks guidance on selecting a simple, two-year project in evolutionary or molecular biology for their Master's exam. Concerns are raised about their uncertainty regarding future career paths, suggesting that gaining work experience in the field might provide clarity and potentially lead to employer-sponsored further education. Several project ideas are proposed, including investigating the role of epigenetics in evolution, exploring the impact of climate change on genetic diversity, studying antibiotic resistance evolution, examining the molecular basis of speciation, and analyzing the role of microRNAs in gene regulation. The importance of aligning project choices with personal interests and available resources is emphasized, along with the suggestion to consult professors or colleagues for tailored advice.

Tell me please what (simple, 2 year sufficient) project in evolutionary biology or molecular biology will suit me ?
I am going to take an Master exam in biology, but there is nothing in head as to what I should do in one of those two fields, please give me some ideas on how and where to go now ? I am thinking a lot about this and really don't know? Thanks a lot

I don't know you and your strengths well enough to recommend anything. I am concerned you don't seem to know what you want to do, yet are planning to do a Master's anyway. You might be better off going out and working a few years, give yourself some more time to think about what you really want to do with the rest of your life and what interests you most, then go back for your masters. If you get a job in industry doing something related to biology, the company might pay for you to get your masters too, so if you're really uncertain now, it might be the better approach.

for your help! There are many exciting project ideas that you can consider for your Master exam in evolutionary biology or molecular biology. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

1. Investigating the role of epigenetics in evolution: With the growing understanding of epigenetic mechanisms, there is a potential to explore how these changes can contribute to the evolution of species. You could conduct a study on a specific organism and analyze changes in gene expression and epigenetic modifications over time.

2. Exploring the impact of climate change on genetic diversity: Climate change is a major threat to biodiversity, and it is essential to understand how it affects genetic diversity within species. Your project could involve analyzing genetic data from populations of a species in different climatic regions and assessing the impact of climate change on their genetic diversity.

3. Studying the evolution of antibiotic resistance: Antibiotic resistance is a significant global health concern, and understanding how bacteria develop resistance can have important implications for treatment strategies. You could focus on a specific antibiotic and investigate the genetic changes that lead to resistance in different bacterial populations.

4. Investigating the molecular basis of speciation: Speciation is a fundamental process in evolution, but the molecular mechanisms underlying it are still not fully understood. You could use genomic data to study the genetic changes that occur during speciation and identify potential molecular drivers of this process.

5. Examining the role of microRNAs in gene regulation: MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that play a crucial role in gene regulation. Your project could involve studying the role of specific microRNAs in different biological processes, such as development or disease, and how they have evolved across different species.

It is also important to consider your interests and the resources available to you when choosing a project. You could reach out to your professors or colleagues for more specific project ideas and guidance. Good luck with your Master exam!

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation. This article's date received is 2022-11-15...
