Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around an error message encountered while simulating a CMOS inverter circuit in PSPICE. Participants seek to identify and resolve the source of the error, focusing on model parameters and their correct usage within the simulation software.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant reports receiving an error message during simulation and requests assistance in identifying the problem.
  • Another participant suggests using "VTO" instead of "VTP" and "VTN" for the threshold voltages of both NMOS and PMOS transistors, specifying values of -1.5 for PMOS and 1 for NMOS.
  • A further contribution indicates that "KN" cannot be accepted as a model parameter and recommends changing it to "KP," noting that "KP" is automatically regarded as "Kn" in NMOS.
  • A participant expresses gratitude for the assistance received, indicating that the suggestions were helpful.
  • Another participant offers to help with any problems related to circuit simulators, indicating a willingness to assist further.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There appears to be a general agreement on the suggested changes to the model parameters, but the initial error message and its specific cause remain unresolved.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not fully explored the underlying assumptions or detailed the specific nature of the error message, which may limit the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be useful for individuals working with PSPICE, particularly those encountering similar issues with CMOS inverter simulations or circuit modeling parameters.

Hi. I receive an error message once simulating in PSPICE. I have attached a file that explains the problem in details. Will be glad to know the source of the problem.
Thanks!

Write "VTO" instead of "VTP" and "VTN" for both nmos and pmos.
VTO = -1.5 for pmos and VTO = 1 for NMOS

Also KN can not be accepted as model parameters. Change it to KP.

KP is automatically regarded as Kn in NMOS.

Thanks a lot! you've really helped me

No Problemo ! Post any problem related circuit simulators and I'll be glad to answer.
