SUMMARY

A quantitative Biuret test for protein determination is feasible and typically involves a colorimetric analysis rather than titration. The test relies on the formation of a complex between copper ions and peptide bonds, resulting in a color change that can be measured spectrophotometrically. The intensity of the color correlates with protein concentration, allowing for quantitative assessment. A brown result may occur due to the presence of high concentrations of protein or interference from other substances.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of protein chemistry and peptide bonds
  • Familiarity with colorimetric analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of spectrophotometry and its applications
  • Basic laboratory skills for conducting biochemical assays
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of colorimetric assays for protein quantification
  • Learn about spectrophotometric methods and their calibration
  • Investigate potential interferences in the Biuret test and how to mitigate them
  • Explore alternative protein quantification methods, such as the Bradford assay
USEFUL FOR

Students in biochemistry, laboratory technicians, and researchers involved in protein analysis and quantification will benefit from this discussion.

Is it possible to make a quantitative test for protien using biurets test - if so how would you do it? Does it involve titration?

Physics news on Phys.org
Google "quantitave biuret"

i can see a lot of things mentioning it but not any telling me how to do it

speaking of biuret's, is there a time when this test would give a brown result? I've been researching for AGES. oh PLEASE help a humble student ='O
