Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around ranking programming languages from the 1960s to the early 1990s, with participants expressing subjective opinions on various languages and commenting on a potentially missing reference list.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests that the thread aims to rank the best programming languages of the specified era, acknowledging the subjectivity of such rankings.
  • Another participant humorously points out a book that ranks Forth as the best language, implying bias.
  • Concerns are raised about the absence of languages like C and Perl from the ranking.
  • A participant expresses confusion over a language referred to as LOGIC, later clarified to be LOGO.
  • Multiple participants question the relevance of comments made in earlier posts, indicating they refer to a deleted list of languages.
  • One participant jokingly mentions COBOL while affirming the importance of C and C++ in the discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express disagreement regarding the inclusion of certain programming languages, and there is confusion about references to an external list that has been removed. The discussion remains unresolved with multiple competing views on the ranking criteria.

Contextual Notes

The discussion is limited by the lack of access to the original list of programming languages that was deleted, which may have influenced participants' comments and opinions.

Greetings,
All right, I think the title says it all, yet to elaborate things a bit:
This thread ranks the best Programming languages(yes this is of course subjectiv!) of the 60s-80s and early 90s.

Boy, what a surprise! A book on Forth rating Forth as the best language. The best, Jerry, the best.

Yes, I know!

Wow we've come a long way! How is C and Perl not on this list?

I've also never heard of a programming language called LOGIC, and I can't find any reference to one by that name.

That is because I miswrote myself. I meant LOGO.

What thread? It looks like the link to the thread might have been edited out afterwards.

Posts #2, #4 and #5 seem to be commenting on something outside this thread. What?

What no mention of COBOL?,... j/k.

Yes, C and C++, obviously.

They're commenting on a list of languages that the OP deleted from Post #1, along with a reference to an unnamed book about FORTH that the list came from.

Since the OP has now turned this thread into garbage, I'm going to lock it.
