The discussion centers on the decrease in glucose consumption by yeast cells when transitioning from anaerobic to aerobic conditions. Key points include the comparison of ATP production under both conditions, highlighting that aerobic respiration yields significantly more ATP than anaerobic fermentation. This increased ATP production under aerobic conditions leads to a reduced need for glucose consumption, as the cells can generate sufficient energy more efficiently. The participants emphasize that understanding the differences in ATP yield provides insights into the metabolic shifts that occur when yeast cells are exposed to oxygen.

why the rate of glucose consumption dectrases when yeast cells cultured under anaerobic conditions are exposed to oxygen?
Look at how much ATP is produced under aerobic condition and anaerobic conditions. Compare both values and this should give you some clues and you should deduce the answer from that.

I am reading Nicholas Wade's book A Troublesome Inheritance. Please let's not make this thread a critique about the merits or demerits of the book. This thread is my attempt to understanding the evidence that Natural Selection in the human genome was recent and regional.
On Page 103 of A Troublesome Inheritance, Wade writes the following: "The regional nature of selection was first made evident in a genomewide scan undertaken by Jonathan Pritchard, a population geneticist at the...
