Decoding the Mystery of Refrigerator Magnets: The Truth Behind One-Sided Magnets

AI Thread Summary
Refrigerator magnets do not have just one side; they actually have multiple magnetic poles, typically six. The visible side often features a design, while the reverse contains small magnetic slits that create the magnetic field. When tested against a refrigerator, different directions of movement can yield varying levels of attraction due to opposing magnetic forces. Understanding this helps clarify how these seemingly one-sided magnets function effectively. This explanation resolves the initial confusion about the nature of refrigerator magnets.

[SOLVED] Refrigerator Magnet??

A magnet is suppose to have two poles the north and south, it is said that you can't ever have a magnet with only one pole. So how do refrigerator magnets work if they only have one side??

Thanks,
Daniel

Refrig magnets don't have one side they have six.

If you remove the side that has the picture or whatever on it, you have left a six sided magnet.

It actually contains many small slits that are magnets. Try rubbing the magnet across the frig in different directions, you'll find some rub fine and some do not.

This is due to the oposiing magnetic force.

Got it?

My water meter is submerged under water for about 95% of the year. Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
