AI Thread Summary
When applying for a postdoctoral position in Europe, particularly in geophysics, it's essential to craft a detailed research plan that reflects your intended focus, which may differ from your PhD work. The level of detail required can vary significantly between programs, so consulting with your prospective supervisor or group leader is advisable for tailored guidance. Citing relevant literature, such as works from Stanford researchers like Mavko, can strengthen your proposal by demonstrating engagement with existing research. The length of the research plan can also differ based on specific grant requirements, such as those for the Marie Curie fellowship program. Always check the specific guidelines provided by the grant or institution, and reach out to contact persons if the information is unclear.

Just ask the professor that will supervise you, or the group leader or somebody else with experience. Every research program is different and the level of detail in the proposal differs too. If there is a website for the specific grant (Marie Curie fellowship program for instance) then first check their website and if it's unclear, write to the contact person.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
