AI Thread Summary
Transhumanism is defined as the advocacy for the use of advanced science and technology to enhance human physical and cognitive abilities. The World Transhumanist Association promotes the ethical application of these technologies to improve human life significantly. However, the scientific community's opinion on transhumanism is mixed. Some view it as a potentially dangerous ideology reminiscent of eugenics, suggesting that it may prioritize enhancement over ethical considerations. Critics argue that transhumanism reflects more of a cultural stance on science rather than a scientific consensus, indicating a divide in perspectives regarding the implications and morality of enhancing human capabilities through technology.

Can you tell us what transhumanism is? I have no opinion on it, because I've never heard the term before.

Transhumanisim is the support of new science and technology to enhance the mind and body very simply.

The World Transhumanist Association is an international nonprofit membership organization which advocates the ethical use of technology to expand human capacities. We support the development of and access to new technologies that enable everyone to enjoy better minds, better bodies and better lives. In other words, we want people to be better than well.

Doesn't sound like anything for "science" to have an opinion about then. Sounds more like it's that they have an opinion on science rather than vice versa.

It's become a perverse sort of cult. Think eugenics. Some "former" members, which will remain nameless were pushing it here a couple of years ago.
