AI Thread Summary
Seagate's acquisition of Maxtor raises questions about the future of hard drive branding and product quality. There are two main possibilities: either the Maxtor brand will continue as an affordable option under Seagate, or Maxtor drives will simply be rebranded as Seagate products. Concerns about the impact on product quality have been expressed, particularly among users who prefer other brands like Western Digital and Hitachi. The merger reflects a trend in the tech industry where companies consolidate by acquiring competitors, leading to apprehension about market competition and consumer choice.

Didn't Maxtor and Quantum merge just a few years ago?
