AI Thread Summary
Siloxane and silane compounds, such as those found on the referenced Xiameter page, can be effective for sealing concrete, but their effectiveness largely depends on the porosity of the concrete. These compounds act as water repellents and pore blockers, preventing the entry of water, oil stains, and paint. However, high-quality concrete with minimal porosity may not benefit significantly from these sealants. Additionally, due to their toxicity, strict safety measures are essential during application, especially in enclosed spaces. For more detailed information on their use in concrete sealing, resources like Ask the Builder provide further insights.

Hi there, I was wondering if "www.xiameter.com/en/ExploreSilicones/Silicone-Fluids/Pages/polydimethylsiloxane-fluids.aspx"[/URL] can be used to seal concrete?

Depends upon the concrete.
Siloxane and silane compounds are water repellant pore blockers. Since they enter the pores and obstruct other molecules entry they also help reduce oil staining or paint penetration.
However really good concrete has no pores so they have little effect.
Since they are colourless they are particularly useful on more porous building materials like brickwork or blockwork.

The liquids are somewhat toxic so stringent safety precautions need to be taken on application, particularly indoors.
