AI Thread Summary
There were reports of server access issues, with some users unable to connect for the last half hour, suggesting a potential server downtime. Others experienced widespread internet problems, including difficulties with Google and other services. Notably, one user mentioned their spouse had no issues on a low-speed connection, indicating that the problems may not have been universal. To determine the cause of the access issues, a server status check is recommended, which can be done through the server's control panel or by contacting the server administrator. Other factors, such as internet connectivity problems or ongoing maintenance, could also be contributing to the difficulties experienced.

I couldn't get in for the last half hour- did the server go down?

I was having problems everywhere. Even Google was locking up. I think PF did also go offline for a short time. My wife was doing fine on her low speed connection. It was a weird internet night.

Based on the information provided, it is possible that the server went down for the last half hour. However, to confirm this, a server status check would need to be performed. This can be done by accessing the server's control panel or by contacting the server administrator. It is also possible that there could be other factors causing the inability to access the server, such as internet connectivity issues or maintenance being performed on the server. It is best to check with the server administrator for an official update on the server's status.

Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
